No-See-Um Screen
No-see-ums — tiny biting midges common throughout coastal Southwest Florida — are small enough to pass through standard 18x14 screen mesh. For homeowners who spend time in their pool cage or lanai during dawn and dusk hours, or who live near water where no-see-ums are most concentrated, standard screen provides almost no protection. No-see-um screen uses a finer mesh density (typically 20x20 or higher) that blocks the insects while still allowing adequate airflow through the enclosure. The tradeoff is a modest reduction in visibility and airflow compared to standard mesh — but for properties where no-see-um pressure is significant, the improvement in outdoor livability is substantial. Installation follows the same process as standard rescreening: existing mesh is removed, new fine-mesh screen is installed with properly tensioned spline, and the result is a fully functional enclosure with meaningfully improved insect protection.
